Privacy

Setout ("we") washes residential trash bins in the east Bronx, New York. This page covers our website at setoutbins.com, the block waitlist, our texts and emails, and our door-to-door canvassing. Last updated October 1, 2026.

What we collect

• Your name, house number, street and ZIP code, mobile number and email, as you enter them. We match your address to the city's lot record for that address so that one household counts once.
• Whether you ticked the text-message box, the exact wording you agreed to, and the date and time you agreed.
• The IP address you joined from, to limit how many sign-ups can come from one place and to run a bot check.
• How you found us: the web, a flyer or QR code, or a canvasser at your door, and which neighbor's link you used, if any, including the search, ad or flyer link you came from.
• A record of each text and email we send you: the kind of message, when it went, and whether it was delivered. We don't store the text of your replies. A YES is recorded as a confirmation, a STOP as an opt-out, and a HELP as a request for help.
• If one of us knocks on your door: the address, the date, the outcome (no answer, come back later, not interested, or joined) and a short note. If you tell us you're not interested, our canvassing app marks your door to skip for 90 days.
• If you email us, the email and our reply.

We set no cookies of our own. We count page visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies and doesn't follow you across other sites. The join form uses Cloudflare Turnstile, a bot check that runs in your browser; Cloudflare's privacy policy covers what it sees.

Why

To count your household toward your block's first wash, to confirm your spot, to tell you when your block is close or full, to set up your wash date, and to answer you when you write to us. We use the IP address and the bot check only to stop abuse of the sign-up form.

Neighbors see a count, never your name or address. The count updates once an hour and only includes confirmed households. Our own canvassers see which addresses on a block have already joined, so they don't knock twice; they don't see your name, number or email.

Who else sees it

Only the services that run the waitlist for us: Supabase (database), Cloudflare (website hosting, the bot check, rate limiting, and delivery of email sent to our contact address), Twilio (texts) and Resend (email). Each processes your information only to provide its service to us. Beyond that, only the two people who run Setout see it.

We don't sell your information. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text-message opt-in data and consent are never shared with any third party. We'd disclose information if the law required it, and if the business is ever sold or reorganized, your information would go with it under this same policy.

How long we keep it

Twelve months after your block fills, or twelve months after you joined, whichever is later. Then we delete your sign-up and the records of the messages we sent you. That runs automatically every hour. If you've asked us to stop, we keep only a one-way fingerprint (a hash) of your phone number or email address, so we never contact it again; the number or address itself is gone.

Door-visit records stay with our records for that block. They don't hold your name or contact details unless you gave them to a canvasser. Email us to have them deleted.

Stopping and deleting

Reply STOP to any text to opt out. STOP removes your household from your block's public count and stops every future text to that phone number, for every block or list you joined with it. Texting YES again doesn't undo it. Every email carries its own one-click unsubscribe link, which stops every future email to that address, even if you join again later. To stop emails another way, to see what we hold about you, or to have it all deleted, email hello@setoutbins.com from the address you signed up with, or tell us the number.

To opt back in, email hello@setoutbins.com from the address or about the number you want back. For texts, also text START to our number, because Twilio and your mobile carrier keep their own block after a STOP until you do. We only opt someone back in on their own written request.

How we protect it

Your information travels encrypted, and the database can't be read from the public website. Our logs never carry a phone number, an email address or the text of a message. Only the two of us and the services above can reach it. If a breach ever affects your information, we'll tell you, as New York law requires.

Children

The waitlist is for the adult responsible for a household's bins. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If we learn we have, we delete it.

Changes

If we change this page, we change the date at the top. A change that would use your information in a new way takes effect for you only after we've told you.
